Experience Crystal Bridges
Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is one of our most exciting hot spots, and is worth checking out during your time in Bentonville. Noted for its unique, eye catching architecture, this museum was designed by Moshe Safedie and opened in November 2011. Sponsored by Wal-Mart, the museum offers
FREE admission to the public and houses an array of classic American exhibits as well as travelling showcases.
Pieces featured in the permanent collection at Crystal Bridges are all created by American artists. Andy Warhol’s Dolly Parton and Coca-Cola, Norman Rockwell’s Rosie the Riveter and Sick Puppy, and The Studio by George Bellows are amongst the many recognized works of art within the museum. The pieces within the permanent collection span from the Colonial Era to present day, and are sure to be appreciated and enjoyed by all.
Though the temporary exhibits at Crystal Bridges Museum are constantly changing, they remain notable works of art within the museum’s history. Shaking Hands and Kissing Babies: The Road to the White House, an exhibit that showcased the campaign items of Presidents George Washington through Barack
Obama, ran from September 2016 through February 2017. Stuart Davis: In Full Swing features work by American painter Stuart Davis, and will be on exhibit in September 2017 through January 2018. The exhibit will showcase some of Davis’s work from 1927 to 1937, 1938 to 1943, and 1944 to 1964, the year in which Davis died.
Appreciate the Art, Enjoy the Grounds
While the art of the museum is certainly worth checking out, do not let them deter you from spending time on the trails of the museum. With over 3.5 miles of biking and walking trails available to visitors of the museum, you won’t want to miss these beautiful opportunities, which surround the 120 acres of the
Each of the eight trails span between a third of a mile to a mile and a half, and feature different levels of slopes and difficulty, so be sure to check in with a staff person before setting off! Eco Boxes line the trails, and are available to provide trail visitors with more information regarding native plants, local
history, and several other subjects.
What Else Is There?
Not interested in art, and dread the thought of spending time on a trail? No worries. Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art also has a library on site, as well as a restaurant, food truck, and a museum store—all which are worth being checked out as much as the art is. The restaurant, Eleven, has a menu full of American comfort food, sure to please any visitor famished after spending a day wandering through the museum.
